First Lady Michelle Obama hosted the media for a preview of the White House holiday decorations. “Reflect, Rejoice and Renew” is the theme for the season. In her speech, the First Lady said that
for the Obama family, Christmas and the New Year has always been a time to reflect on our many blessings, to rejoice in the pleasure of spending time with our family and our friends, and to renew our commitment to one another and to the causes that we believe in. And I wanted to continue that part of the tradition during our first holiday season here at the White House.
Also of note in Mrs. Obama’s speech is her announcement that this holiday season, the White House is supporting the Toys for Tots program with a toy drive. Toys for Tots is a program associated with the US Marine Corps Reserves that distributes toys to needy children.
For the event, Mrs. Obama chose a teal silk matelasse dress by Michael Kors, pairing it with matching drop earrings and placing her hair in a chignon. (Hat tip to Mrs. O for the style info.)
