Our lovely First Lady took time out of her schedule to visit Children's National Medical Center and read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to some sick children, their parents, and the staff. Joining her were Bo the First Dog and Santa Clause.

The First Lady also shared some Obama family traditions, including a large meal in Hawaii on Christmas Eve.

Meanwhile, Bo the First Dog took the visit as an opportunity to greet the children.

National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

After the lighting of the White House Christmas Tree, First Lady Michelle Obama and Kermit the Frog read the classic poem and story "Twas the Night Before Christmas."

The First Lady wore a wonderful orange scarf and tweed overcoat for the occasion.

As part of a tradition that stretches back 89 years, last night the First Family lit the National Christmas Tree.

First Lady Michelle Obama looks wonderful, choosing to celebrate the occasion in a tweed overcoat and standout orange scarf.

There's a new tree this year that still has some growing to do to reach his prime. The previous tree fell over in February in the face of strong winds.

The White House decorators have decided to create several "sculptures" of Bo, the Obama family dog, to use in the White House Christmas decorations.

There will be 5 wonderful Bo pieces made from a variety of materials including buttons (318 buttons in total), felt (35 yards of wool felt used), pom poms (750 pom poms used), trash bags (6,850 feet worth), and–my personal favorite–candy (12 marshmallows, 1911 pieces of licorice)!

When you include ornaments featuring Bo small Bos, you can find the First Dog in almost every room!

Here you can get a sneak peak into the making of "Button Bo," the smallest of the five topiaries.

Michelle, Sasha, Malia, and Bo the First Dog get the White House Christmas Tree. Don't they make quite the cute group?

First Lady Michelle Obama is joined by Malia Obama and Sasha Obama for the presentation of the Official White House Christmas Tree at the North Portico of the White House, Nov. 25, 2011. The 19-foot-tall balsam fir came from Schroeder’s Forevergreens near Neshkoro, Wisconsin and will be displayed throughout the holiday season in the Blue Room of the White House.

The tree from Schroeder's Forevergreens in Wisconsin is being decorated to honor of military families.

Schroeder's is one of approximately 800 Christmas tree lots and farms in the US that participates in the Trees for Troops program, which gives free Christmas trees to military families. This year they hopes to deliver their 100,000th tree.
